Below, the chart with the cities in the EU and the US among the world's 300 largest with a GDP of $75 billion or less.
Findings
- The EU and the US account for half of the world's 300 largest metropolitan economies with the two superstates accounting for 153 of them.
- The United States has the largest of these by far as it dwarfs the second largest metropolitan economy, Los Angeles.
- The largest EU metropolitan economy, London, has an economy slightly smaller than Los Angeles's.
Caveats
- The data is from 2014.
Details
Whereas the largest US metropolitan economies are from every region of the country, all of the EU's are from northwest Europe. Milan is the only EU city with a GDP over $300 billion that is not from northwest Europe.
Nine of the largest 12 metropolitan economies in the two superstates are American.
