The chart above shows the residential cost of natural gas per kilowatt hour for each EU region in 2016. The Northern EU which has the most need for the commodity has the highest prices for it.
Findings
- The difference between the region with the most expensive residential natural gas, the Northern EU, and the region with the cheapest, the Eastern EU, is €0.06.
- The Northern EU has 2.43 times the residential natural gas prices that the Eastern EU does.
Caveats
- All figures are rounded to the nearest hundredth.
- Cyprus, Finland, and Malta are not included in the list as Cyprus and Malta do not have a residential natural gas grid, and Finland has a very small one in a limited geographic area.
- The Northern EU consists of Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.
- The Southern EU consists of Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, and Malta.
- The Western EU consists of Germany, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Ireland, and Luxembourg.
- The Eastern EU consists of Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

The Northern EU is the only region to not have a single state where the commodity costs less than seven cents.
The Eastern EU on the other hand, is the only region to not have a single state where the commodity costs more than seven cents.
