EU Regions' Vacation Spending in 2015

The chart above shows the average vacation expenditures for overnight stays by EU region.  The Western EU is the region that spends the most on vacations by far.

Findings

• The difference between the region with the greatest vacation spending, the Western EU, and the region with the least, the Eastern EU, is €234.61.
• The Western EU has 2.41 times the average vacation expenditures that the Eastern EU does.

Caveats

• All figures are rounded to the nearest hundredth.
• United Kingdom data is from 2013, all other data is from 2015.
• The Western EU consists of Germany, United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Ireland, and Luxembourg.
• The Southern EU consists of Italy, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, and Malta.
• The Northern EU consists of Sweden, Denmark, and Finland.
• The Eastern EU consists of Poland, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

Details

The Eastern EU is the only region where vacation spending is less than €200.  It is also the only region where all states spend less than €300.  Every single state in the region spends less than the average of any other region.

The Western EU, however, is the only region where all states spend more than €300.  In addition, every single state in the region spends more than the average of any other region.
